Gardline Environmental

Far from simply being part of the GMSL group which concentrates on the acquisition of environmental data, Gardline Environmental Limited (GEL) offers a range of other services split into five main business lines.  These include nearshore hydrographic surveys, topographic surveys, third-party positioning services on barges and rigs, marine mammal observations and passive acoustic monitoring, oceanographic and ‘metocean’ studies and the provision of small boat services.

In recent years, the Environmental division has grown considerably due to a combination of increased oil and gas related operations and the tighter enforcement of regulations and guidelines. The other divisions within GEL have also grown significantly, adding to our non oil and gas portfolio of services.

The company has continued to invest in equipment to support ongoing survey work for the Environment Agency (EA) and GEL’s ever-increasing positioning services contracts.  The Coastal Service Division was launched in 2007 and has delivered two new catamarans for the Gardline fleet of coastal survey and crew work boats, the ‘Meriel D’ and ‘Waterfall’.  Another two 20m catamarans are also planned to service the various needs of the renewables and wind farm markets.

For several years, Gardline’s oceanographers have impressed the EA with the level of service they provide to the UK’s Coastal Monitoring Project.  Along with colleagues at Titan Environmental Surveys, GEL is looking at further developing these services and offering them at a number of nearshore oceanographic projects, especially overseas in areas such as Australia.

The newest division to GEL is the Marine Wildlife Department – its core operations focus on Marine Mammal Observations and in its first year the team made a significant mark in the industry and has secured long term contracts in the UK and overseas.  It has been awarded the first commercial noise mitigation survey offshore Australia.
